In the premiere episode, we meet the Bachelor, Alex, and learn about his past. Alex then hosts a cocktail party and is introduced to the women for the first time. By the end of the evening, he faces the daunting task of selecting 15 whom he would like to know better, and presents each one with a single red rose. But at this point and at every point thereafter, the women can either accept or decline the Bachelor's invitation to continue on the journey. After much deliberation, Alex offered a rose to Kim, Cathy, Trista, Amy, Alexa, LaNease, Tina, Angelique, Rhonda, Christina, Katie, Amanda, Angela, Melissa and Shannon. The women who accepted the rose will now move into a sprawling mansion overlooking the Pacific Ocean for much of their courtship with the Bachelor.

First Date: Angelique, LaNease, Shannon, Kathryn, Christina Alex's first date was to Las Vegas for a night of gaming and pleasure. While playing billiards in the penthouse suite at the Venetian hotel, Angelique made a power move and asked to see Alex in private. When the other four ladies realized that Angelique was out-smarting them, they crashed the party. During dinner, Alex asked Shannon if she would go for a walk with him — in front of his other shocked dates. During their walk, Alex told Shannon he felt a connection with her. Alex and his dates then went and played Blackjack in the casino; the date with the most money after twenty minutes would get a private gondola trip down the Venetian canal with Alex. LaNease won, and as they got in the gondola, the gondolier told them that it was tradition to have a kiss under each bridge they passed under. Alex and LaNease maintained the tradition, sharing several intimate kisses. Second Date: Angela, Amy, Melissa, Amanda, Trista The next date was to the Two Bunch Palms Resort and Spa in Palm Springs for luxurious mud baths. As they sank into the thick mud, the group of ladies threw out hard dating questions to Alex, and got him to admit that he had cheated on girlfriends in the past — a serious issue with many of the dates. While the group showered off, Amanda offered to let Alex wash her off, and she would wash him. Alex obliged the request, and the two hosed each other down in front of the other ladies. Angela got some soap in her eye, which swelled up and was quite painful. On the bus back, Melissa stepped up her strategy and sat on Alex's lap. The two shared a private conversation, Melissa all the while in Alex's arms. Third Date: Rhonda, Alexa, Cathy, Kim, Tina Alex's final group date was a cruise on a private luxury yacht from Santa Barbara. On the way to the docks, Alex called Angela to check on her eye, causing all of the women to wonder if Alex was interested in Angela. On the boat, Rhonda was very aggressive in getting Alex alone, and Alex admitted that of these particular five women, Rhonda was the closest to marriage material. Rose Ceremony Prior to Alex offering roses, Shannon explained how she felt she would not receive one, as Alex had made all of the girls feel special — and if all of them were special, then none of them were special. Melissa explains how she feels confident, as Alex practically told her he would be dating her again. During the surprising ceremony, Alex offered roses to Shannon, Amanda, Cathy, Rhonda, Christina, Kim, Trista and LaNease. All of them accepted.

We meet Alex's friends Stephanie and Sam, who move into the guest house at the Ladies' Villa. Stephanie and Sam have created a compatibility test to give the remaining eight ladies, with a very special prize: the three women whose answers are the most compatible with Alex's will get private one-on-one dates with Alex. The other five women will share Alex in one group date. First Date: Amanda Amanda won the first date, and the sparks were very clearly flying. In the limousine on the way to their Sushi & Massage date, Alex and Amanda just couldn't deny their mutual attraction, and ended up making out. During dinner, Amanda and Alex again kiss passionately, but are interrupted by a shocked and bewildered waitress. Later, they both change into Kimonos, and Alex gives Amanda a sensual massage. Alex makes a point, though, of not going to far with Amanda sexually, as he is aware that living for the moment may cause him to miss an entire future. The next morning, Amanda reveals that they were out until 4 a.m., but when asked if they fooled around, Amanda refuses to kiss and tell. Second Date: Trista Trista wins the second date with Alex — a date at Alex's home, making dinner together. Ironically, Trista confessed during the compatibility test that she doesn't cook. Alex confesses to Trista that she makes him nervous, because he really likes her. Much to Alex's surprise, Trista apparantly has no real response to this. Trista later mentions that she puts up a wall emotionally, and Alex wonders if there is any attraction to him on Trista's part. While Trista is out with Alex, LaNease reveals to the other women that she kissed Alex during her gondola ride in Las Vegas. Third Date: LaNease, Rhonda, Kimberly, Cathy, Christina All of the other ladies except Shannon are invited out on the next date — making it clear that Shannon has won the last date in this round. The other ladies are all extremely disappointed, especially Rhonda, who knows that Alex is the perfect man for her. The group goes to the Saddle Rock Ranch in Malibu for horseback riding and a cookout, and tensions ran high. Alex felt the women were all angry with him, and made some one-on-one time for Rhonda. Fourth Date: Shannon Shannon received a note to dress down for a casual note out on the town, but was surprised when Alex showed up in a jacket and tie. After Alex tells her not to worry about it, they hold hands in the limo as they go to their first stop: Escada in Beverly Hills, where Shannon gets to shop for the perfect evening gown, with Alex's help. After she picks a beautiful black dress, Shannon also had the opportunity to choose a tie for Alex. Alex and Shannon are then whisked off to their next destination, the penthouse suite of the Four Seasons hotel for an intimate, romantic dinner. Before they begin, Alex presents Shannon with a gorgeous necklace and matching earrings from Harry Winston (WebMaster's note: Shannon did not get to keep the dress or the jewels). Over dinner they talk and the growing bond is clear, and the two finish the night dancing on the balcony, overlooking Los Angeles, to the sounds of a solo violinist. Alex later calls the date "the most romantic" night he's ever had. Rose Ceremony The ladies all gather for a small party prior to the Rose Ceremony, during which Alex takes some time for a one-on-one with Kim, who he hasn't had the opportunity to spend much time with. Her interest is clear, as the two share a tender moment and a gentle kiss. Later, Trista assures Alex that while she is afraid of being vulnerable and does have a wall up, she is interested in him. During the ceremony, Alex offered roses to Shannon, Amanda, Kim, and Trista. All of them accepted. After the ceremony, while the ladies say their goodbyes, Rhonda begins to experience difficulty breathing. An ambulance is summoned, as the pressure of the preceding days takes its toll on Rhonda, and the others express concern over her well-being.

The remaining four Bachelorettes all get a chance to say goodbye, as they vacate the Ladies' Villa to return to their hometowns and introduce Alex to their families and friends. First Trip: Kim Knowing he hasn't spent very much one-on-one time with Kim, Alex arrives in Phoenix, Arizona and makes a point of getting some private time with her … and the two go speed boating on a lake! They had a great time, and even managed to sneak in a kiss or three. Afterwards, it was on to Kim's parent's house to meet the family. Alex got to spend time with Kim's mom, dad, two sisters, brother-in-law, niece and nephew. It was important to Kim to see if Alex connected well with kids, which he seemed to — up until he accidentally made her nephew cry by playing with him a little too rough. The rest of the visit was pleasant, as Alex seemed to connect well with his date's family. Second Trip: Trista An excited and energetic Alex arrives in St. Louis, Missouri to spend some quality time with Trista and meet her parents. Upon arriving, Alex and Trista first tour the city a bit, and stop by her old high-school, as Alex ponders if Trista even really likes him. Sitting on the bleachers at her old high-school field, they share a kiss. At Trista's home, Alex is introduced to Trista's happy and inviting family. Alex seems to blend in easily with Trista's laid-back kin. Trista's mother asks Trista if Alex is a good kisser, and an embarrased but honest Trista says he is. After spending some time with her family, who she is close to, Alex felt that Trista started to melt a little bit. Trista's friends stopped by, and the mood lightened even more as they tried to get Alex to dance. In the limousine afterwards, Trista confesses that while she would not have picked a guy like Alex out on her own, she is very interested in him. When Alex asks her to imagine dating him exclusively, though, Trista admits she cannot, as she knows he is dating three other women. Third Trip: Amanda An extremely tired Alex arrives in the small town of Chanute, Kansas, to meet Amanda's family. After a long ride in from the city with Amanda, Alex doesn't seem to connect with Amanda's folks, and lacks the energy to turn on his usual charm. Alex admits that his demeanor is not that good. Over dinner at a country club, Alex meets Amanda's protective brothers, who proceed to grill him pretty hard on who he is and what he's doing. Alex holds his own, though, and manages to impress the older brothers. An exhausted Alex heads out, one more trip to go … Fourth Trip: Shannon It's off to Dallas, Texas, for Alex's last trip to meet Shannon's family. Almost immediately upon entering Shannon's home, Shannon goes off to look for her dog. After playfully meeting Shannon's beloved Weimaraner, Avery, Alex goes inside to spend time with her mother, father, sister and nephew — but all of Shannon's attentions remain firmly on the dog. Shannon creates an awkward moment when she leaves a bewildered Alex behind in the living room with her parents, with nothing to say, while she decides she wants to be outside with Avery. After taking the dog for walk, Shannon sends Alex off in the limo without a goodbye kiss. When she goes back in to find out what her parents think of Alex, her parents turn the tables and draw Shannon's frustration when they question her about what she's been doing. Later that evening, Alex questions Shannon in the limo about her "rules." Shannon is hesitant to talk about it on camera, as these are personal, private issues, and Shannon wants Alex to respect that. As she grows frustrated, they argue a little over if Alex is aware of just how serious Shannon is — and how serious a marriage will be. The Rose Ceremony Back in Malibu, Alex faces his toughest decision yet, as he has to decide which of the Bachelorettes will not be receiving a rose in tonight's ceremony. After watching the private video messages recorded after each date, Alex offers roses to Shannon, Trista and Amanda. A heart-broken Kim says her goodbyes, and, while in tears, remains optimistic on her limo ride home.

We open in Malibu, where Alex is looking forward to the overnight dates and the opportunity to spend some real time with each of the remaining bachelorettes, but is worried about the upcoming Rose Ceremony. First Dream Date: Amanda in New York City Amanda is thrilled to have the chance to get closer to Alex, and this is her first time going to New York City. While taking a double-decker bus tour through the city, Alex asks some questions to Amanda — including asking her about her breasts. Amanda takes the question in stride, and admits that when she was a child, she was obsessed with Dolly Parton, and that she had an augmentation. Alex was thrilled with Amanda's honest, straight-forward, and friendly demeanor. After a romantic ice-skating session, they go on a chilly-but-romantic horse carriage ride through Central Park, in which Alex sings a little They Might Be Giants as they discuss the pleasures of dressing-up and role playing — specifically, dressing Alex up in some Chaps! On the way to dinner, Alex reveals to us that he is still concerned about Amanda, despite the feelings he has to her — and Amanda admits that she is indeed falling in love with Alex. Over dinner, Amanda talks about how her father passed away, and thrills Alex when she reveals that she had her marriage annulled. As far as Alex is concerned, she has never been married. After dinner, Alex takes out an envelope addressed to Amanda from Chris, the show's host. In it is an invitation for Amanda and Alex to forgo their private rooms in lieu of sharing a fantasy suite atop the W Hotel. They hop a cab straight back to the hotel, and Alex orders a special treat from room service — "Sex In The Sheets." Ingredients: ice cream, hot fudge, caramel, Polaroid camera and a plastic sheet. Our last image is a Polaroid of a chocolate-covered Amanda. Second Dream Date: Shannon in Lake Tahoe, CA. Alex is excited to spend some time with Shannon, but he wants her to know that this is not just a casual date — he wants her to open up and get close to him. Shannon tells him she won't answer certain questions, or do certain things; Alex goes to give her a kiss, and Shannon rebuffs him. Over lunch in the snow, Alex asks Shannon to forget that he is dating other women, and accelerate the date. Shannon asks if she can call him her boyfriend, and Alex says yes. Shannon slowly begins to open up. Back at their lodge, the two decide to to have some hot-tub time, but Shannon refuses to take off her bathrobe and reveal her body to Alex — which Alex says is ridiculous, as he thinks she has a "flawless" body. Alex admits she scares him. Over dinner, Shannon says that she thinks Alex knows everything about her that he needs to know. Shannon goes on, expressing her feelings that kissing is incredibly intimate, and kissing in public cheapens the act. After a tense moment when Shannon asks if Alex is upset, Alex gives her the envelope from Chris, inviting the couple to spend the night together in a chalet. A seemingly offended Shannon agrees to go and look at the chalet, but she says she knows he's getting the same offers with his other dates, and is not happy about it. Alex walks Shannon back to the lodge without saying a word, and he then kicks the cameras out so they can talk in private. The two seemed to work through it, but Alex realizes he still has concerns about Shannon. Third Dream Date: Trista at Kona Village, Hawaii. Alex meets Trista on the beach, and the two hop on a romantic helicopter ride over a waterfall, a volcano, and a pod of humpback whales. Romantic disaster almost occurs for Alex, though, when he gets air-sick and begins to vomit — excessively. Alex felt that he wasn't impressing her, but that it was a bonding experience, as Trista was so cool with him. After landing and freshening up, they meet back on the beach for some more talking and bonding. Alex tells Trista he really just wants to date only her, and Trista admits to Alex that she's "in like" with him, but not "in love" with him. Moments later, Alex realizes he's sick again, and returns to his room to go to bed. Trista comes in later that night to check on him, and hunkers down for a night of talking and comforting. Trista's nurturing side comes out, and she begins to tell things to Alex she hasn't told anyone. The two spend the night connecting. The next morning, Alex is feeling better, and they go on a massage outing. Trista confesses that if Alex were to choose her, she doesn't know what she'd say. Rose Ceremony Alex faces the toughest decision he's had to make yet. He thinks Amanda may be the best person for him, but is he in love with her? He is very drawn to Shannon, and he sees a lot of potential in her. And he feels like he's really getting to know the incredible person that Trista is, beyond how beautiful she is physically. He is feeling total confusion and panic. Watching the personalized videos, Amanda is grateful for the time in New York, Shannon says she's had a great time with him and wants to get to know him even better, and Trista wants Alex to think of the trip as "great," as she does, despite his getting sick. Alex offers roses to Trista and Amanda. While walking Shannon out to the car, she parts with just a handshake and walks away — but then returns with one question: Why? Alex explains that he feels they are two diffreent people at different points in their lives, and they would struggle if they were together. In the limo ride home, Shannon says that Alex is weak, and that she's not the type of person who will just say "yes" to whatever he wants.

Global rating: 2.8

In Dallas, Texas, Alex explains how he feels good about the final two women he's dating — but can't wait to find out what his family thinks of Amanda and Trista. Alex first brings Trista home to meet his folks. Alex admits that his family is a tough group, and that his mother thinks it is too short of a time period to get to know someone. Trista and Alex arrive, and they sit down in the living room for everyone to get to know each other. Alex's sister gets the ball rolling by asking Trista why she thinks they're compatible; Trista explains that she was impressed by his love of family, his love of travel, his attention to education, his innate athleticism, and his kindness and strength in uncomfortable situations. When asked by Alex's mother what she's learned about herself, Trista admits that she's difficult to open up to people, and when Alex's father asks if she is competitive and just wants to win, regardless of the consequences, Trista explains that she wouldn't have let it go this far unless she truly felt she and Alex were compatible, and he should be with the right person. Trista then readily admits that she is still not in love with Alex, but in like with him, and as a child of divorce, she knows to only travel this path if it's the right thing to do. Peter, Alex's dad, admits that he grilled her pretty hard, but she handled it gracefully, and that impressed him. Alex's mother admits she, too, is impressed, and Trista confides to the camera that this is a family she could grow into. Alex's mother does say that she still feels Alex is not ready to get married. The next day, before getting Amanda, Alex says he wants and respects his parent's advice, but doesn't feel bound to it. Alex introduces a nervous Amanda to his family, and the questions start firing almost immediately. Amanda is caught off-guard when the subject of her annulment is brought up by Alex's mother, who asks if the speed at which she's looking to get married again bothers her. Amanda says that it doesn't bother her, that she has always wanted to be settled down, and doesn't like dating. Amanda also says there is no noticeable problems despite their age difference. Alex and his mother go into the kitchen, where his mother says she sees nothing in him that indicates he's in love with Amanda, and that he seems to have found two girls that he'd like to keep dating, but not marry. She says that she's worried about the position he's in. After Alex walks Amanda out, Alex's dad tells him that he needs to keep his head on, and get to know one of them really well before getting engaged. They both say that it doesn't matter who they like better, he needs to go with the one he feels most attracted to. Alex decides he needs one more date with each of them, before he's ready to make a decision. Back in Malibu, Alex and Trista have pizza and beer. Alex wants to see if Trista realizes that this is the 11th hour, and if she's going to open up, now is the time to do so. Alex offers to answer any of her questions. Trista says she's realizing getting engaged is a real possibiliy for her. She says that if she had made it to the final two, and that she didn't feel about Alex the way Amanda does, then she would back out. But she also realizes that now, she's ready to fight for him, and to tell him that she wants to be with him. She also doesn't want to have to sell herself to Alex; that ultimately, he needs to choose with his heart based on how he feels when he's with Amanda and Trista. Alex confesses to the camera that tonight, Trista has surprised him with considering the engagement, and wanting to be with him. Trista asks Alex if he had to pick now, who would he pick? Alex answers Trista. They begin to get close, and Alex invites Trista to stay the night — an offer Trista accepts. The next morning, Alex admits that he can't get Trista out of his head. Over wine and Chinese food, Amanda and Alex bond even more. Amanda wants to tell Alex how she really feels, and Alex tells her how many good things there are about her. Alex admits to the camera that he's kept her at a distance because he knows that she feels very strongly about him, but tonight, he's not going to do that. The two go for a dip in the hot tub, and start to kiss. Alex breaks the news that the mansion he's staying in is a little different from his real apartment; Amanda doesn't seem to mind in the least. Later on, Amanda tells Alex how amazing she thinks he is, and that she is falling in love with him. They kiss some more, and Amanda tells Alex she has a surprise for him when they go back inside. They do, and Amanda surprises Alex … in a French maid's outfit. We hear the sounds of spanking behind the closed bedroom door. The next day is decision day. On the way to a jewlers to pick out a ring, Alex talks about how much he has learned about himself, and how he now knows what he needs to do. As he looks at rings, Trista tells the camera how she just wants to keep her heart controlled, and how nervous she is. Amanda talks about how nervous she, too, is, and how her dream is for Alex to pull her into his arms and tell her she's the one. Back at the mansion, Alex talks about how this whole process was designed to lead up to today, and indeed, it has worked. He can't wait to look her in the eye, and tell her she's the one, and put all the blocks in their way aside. He feels he is choosing what he needs and what he wants, along with what makes him happy — his choice is the total package, and he's falling in love. Chris explains when the ladies arrive, they will not know if they are first or second, and they will not see each other. Final Rose Ceremony Trista arrives, and doesn't know what to expect. Alex tells Trista that when this first began, she made his heart race, and that she's beautiful, smart, and funny — but doesn't think they're meant to be together. He wishes her the best, and the two share a very emotional hug. Alex tells us that he feels like he just broke up with an amazing girl who has done absolutely nothing wrong. Trista feels surprised, because they had such a great talk, and Alex had told her she was the one. But she opened up, and she's proud of that, and that while she is very sad now, she is going to be OK. Amanda arrives to find Alex waiting for her. Alex says that when he thinks back, he thinks it's appropriate that the first rose went to the girl who is also receiving the last rose — her. He feels himself falling in love with her, and he has a ring for her — but he is going to hold on to it for a bit longer, because he wants them to spend some time to get to know each other away from the fantasy world of mansions and dream dates. He says he would love it if she would move to California to be with him. He gives her a kiss, and then gets on one knee and offers her the final rose. Amanda accepts. Amanda feels that this is the result of love at first sight, and that Alex is everything she has ever wanted.
